Hey, I'm trying to change my page file, I changed it in the performance options and restarted but it won't update on the Windows Task manager, it still says xxxxM/3430M

I'm trying to lower my Page File because I am getting a skipping screen on some games with my brand new 8800GT, my friend told me when a game uses too much page file the game will be running on the HD more then your regular RAM or something.. Which will make it skip.
He told me to lower it to 1526 and it'd fix the problem.

Are you clicking on the SET button when you change the pagefile setting?

FYI but your friend is incorrect concerning games and pagefile. If you think about it you will understand why. If the game is having to use a considerable amount of pagefile it means you don't have enough ram. Reducing what the game uses in pagefile means it would skip even more.

Odds are its not your hd/pagefile but either other processes in the background grabbing cpu time which shutters the game or its at too high a video resolution for your video card.

Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?

Yea I am clicking the "Set" Button.

The resolution is not high at all, 1280x1024

BF2 is using about 1.3GB page file and 70% of my 2GB ram.

My friend said he had the same problem and fixed it with the page file thing, thats why I'm trying it but it won't set for some reason..

Did you reboot after changing it?

Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about. Let windows handle your page file and look for other reasons for any game problems that you have.

The pagefile is only used when there is not enough real memory available. Maybe you have applications running in the background that are using a lot of memory.

"I'm trying to lower my Page File"

All post are correct when they say that if your Game play is having to use page file that your system is using you HD as RAM.
By LOWERING the page file it would make the Game play slow down cause it would be using all memory and not allowed to use the hard disk as memory.

If any thing it would need to be Higher.
But i think that is'nt the problem.
Have you tried updateing the video drivers.

I look at your image there has to be a lower setting and a higher setting.

Not the same setting...

1000-1500 example

I'm not seeing an issue there. The commit charge limit is your physical RAM + page file.

And yeah, a lot of games CAN run slower with a large page file, as it'll claim a large chunk for itself. Not because it needs the swap, but just because it's there. Still, it's usually only an issue when loading/unloading.

EDIT: Oh, nice skin there, BTW.

Oooh.. I didn't know Comit Charge was ram+PF, thanks Razor2.3.

So I was playing the games again with the lower PF, and I didn't seem to get the problem anymore.. It ran smooth

I have both min/max to 1826MB, is that okay? I don't think it could hurt anything and it's running fine atm lol
