I'm getting a blue screen saying PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA the file is ntfs.sys. I got this error while i was updating windows after i had installed xp. I have tried to boot in safe mode but te error still comes up. I tried using the boot disks to repair windows but i get the error. i tried to format the drive and reload windows but after i get through the 6 boot disks i press enter to load windows and it gives me the error. i tried loading the sys files using the command SYS C: but that changed nothing. I ran doc memory in dos to test the memory and it passed all tests 14 times. Right now the computer starts up and says Missing Operating System.
This problem is very annoying thanks for any help in advance.

Hi Jon,

You were smart to run docmem. That was going to be my first suggestion.

Since you're getting OS not found, check the BIOS to see if the boot HD is correctly identified.

Your Windows crashes with bugcheck code 50, windows writes a system event 1001 and a minidump to the folder \windows\minidump
Check system event 1001 and it has the content of the blue screen

Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System -> Event 1001. Copy the content and paste it back here

According to my experience 80% of the bugcheck code 50 is related to hardware and 20% is related to faulty ram.

memtest is not reliable tools to test the memory. Open the case, reseat the memory stick may be the contact is bad. If it does not work, reseat the memory stick to another slot.
