page fault in nonpaged area xp pci.sys

November 8, 2010 at 10:09:30
Specs: Windows XP, 1 gig ram
I am running a windows xp home with sp3 - 1 gig ram -
when I shut down the computer I get a stop error involving pci.sys and page_fault_in_nonpaged_area.
have run chkdsk, system file checker. I have removed each stick of ram to see if one was bad and nothing. I have updated a video driver and still get the BSOD on shutdown. Any ideas?

Look at the link below.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...

Are you by chance using a hard drive larger than 137GB on an older computer than came with a smaller hard drive?

I have tried the chkdsk as suggested in the artical with no luck. the computer is a HP Pavilion a730n that came with a 200 g hard drive. It now has a 250 g drive.

Notorious for bad motherboards,,,, I would remove the hard drive and put it in another system to back up the data, Then try reinstalling windows...if it BSODS out on you its probably the board or atleast a hardware issue.

Thanks HopperRox, It would be a good idea to back things up and I'll tell my client that it's time for a new computer!

Did you read all the possible causes? Run a memory test on the RAM. Remove any newly added hardware.

Why misrepresent the situation. You are a repair tech that came here for help. Say so.

Sorry, I didn't know that that was what I was to do. I ran mem test, removed the ram one by one to see it it was that. No new hard ware added.
thank you for your help. I won't ask again.

"I am running a windows xp home with sp3"

That implies the computer is yours.

Not much of a tech if you are giving up on that repair so easily.
