I can only get a couple of websites nowadays, and the rest just come up with 'page cannot be displayed' or 'DNS error'. I think it might be because I've been fiddling around with my IP thingy in network connections - how do I reset it?! Also, do you think it is that? Or is it something else? Please help me!!

In network settings, highlight "IP/TCP' and choose "properties". The make sure that both "obtain IP Address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS Automatically" are checked.
If you need further help, it might be best to post in the "Network" forum.

Or he can right click on the connection and choose "repair" which does all that automatically. (Except for the "netsh winsock reset catalog")
