You mean other than the likelyhood of a repair install?

the short answer is "YES!" you will have problems. However, it can be done but i only suggest you do it if you have 100's of apps that you can't or don't want to re-install. PM me if you want the details of how to do it.

I don't understand the significance of a responser asking to PM him/her for solution wheter it is right or not. CN is an open forum for everyone to share ideas and suggestions, is it not?

If the chipsets on the two motherboards are not identical or remotely similar you are going to have a little situation, or as you'd like to call it - conflict!

However, it is nothing that a repair install won't take care of, ofcourse there are ways to even avoid a repair install and you can easily google up for that.

Yes there will be problems. Your windows Xp will no longer be activated and you will only be able to boot into safe mode. But you might be able to get microsoft to help you out on that. If you can, the only problems I'd say you'd have is installing new drivers for the different hardware.

XpUser, I know CN is for everyone but some things are just too large and complex to discuss here. Sure kogan31 could swap the drive and i could tell him how to do it. But the process takes about 3-4 hours and is way to detailed for me to go over here.

kogan31, swapping drives under XP doesn't work like it did under windows 95 or 98. For example, the Primary and Secondary IDE drivers may not want to "take" when you swap the drive, which will result in "compatibility mode". And the only way to get out of Compatibility mode is a format and reinstall.

control panel-system-device manager-Right click the ide controller and select update driver-install from a list or specified location-don't search I will choose the driver to install-select the standard controller.
