Hi all,
Pretty sure I just had my power supply die on me.
I was playing a game, then the computer switched off. Now when I try to start the computer nothing happens. However if I switch off the power supply from the back of the case, the comp will run for about 2 seconds then switch off. Not even reaching POST.

The system specs are as follows.
Enermax 450w PSU
p4 3.4
512Mb DDR2 ram
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card
2x BFG GForce 6600GTOC vid cards (running as SLI)

1 SATAII HD
2 IDE HDs
2 DVD-ROM Drives

Was I overloading the power supply?

Any advise would be most appreciated.

Judging from that and what you've said, yes I think the PSU is dead or very nearly completely gone. I recommend you buy a decent 500W power supply.

Figured as much :P
Going to try and get the warranty on the PSU and get them to upgrade it to a 500 or 550.

Guess the SLI was the last straw for the PSU, only got around to putting the second card in today :-S

Thanks for advice, most of the manuals I have gone through are really vague on the power requirements.

Wish me luck :)

I think maybe a defective Psu but Enermax is a quality Psu and certainly 450 should have been plenty for what you have and were doing and should never have blown.

Hmmm,
I was going with the psu theory because I had one go on me about 8 months ago. Different system and the symptoms were pretty much the same.
I mean, the power light on the motherboard is still on, could there be anything else causing this?

No it probably is Psu, it just stirkes me as odd with a good one like Enermax. Also wondering if heat related and maybe heat synch and fan not proerly fastened...of course if heat related should turn on later after cooling down.
Check cpy fan and heat synch as only other possibility. I mean could also be a cable and even power cord, but not likely.

I'll check out the cpu and heatsink, though, I find it curious that the power supply fails the day I put in the second graphics card.

I guess I just got a failty psu and the power reqs pushed it over the edge. Or I guess it could have been the increase in temperature from the second card.

Well, once I put the new psu in i'll grab a few extra fans.
