Comment:
My comp has been shutting down randomly and then citing overheating on reboot. We have 3 internal fans all working properly. Sometimes it takes forever to reboot. Then the comp will go weeks without doing this. Any ideas???

When you say internal fans working OK, what does that mean? If you are getting heat shutdowns, then they are not working ok. What were you ding at the time it shut down? Probably either bad grease line between heat synch and fcpu, loose clamp to same, showing up under stress, but could also be a failing fan which you need to check speed of cpu fan, not just look at it. I like to monitor these things and other with Sisoft sandra...and there is a free download of 2000 lite available at www.sisoftsandra.com

124F is 51C.
Your CPU is NOT ovefheating.
The behavior you are seeing is probably due to some other problem.

Thanks!!
On reboot it tells us that the comp was shutdown due to overheating. THis happens for days at a time and then weeks will go by and the comp will be fine. Sometimes we have trouble rebooting. Virus perhaps? I ran spybot to make sure there was no spyware respnsible.

check the BIOS settings to make sure you haven't got the PCHealth section set to shut down at too low a temp - I know not all Pentium boards have this facility but it's worth checking.
For some reason I feel as though you have the voltages set wrong for your CPU.
Look in your BIOS and make sure the CPU Shadowing (Cache or Caching or Reading) is turned OFF. Do the same for the Ram and Video.
It sounds as if you are getting a Voltage Spike across the Ram, Video Card or CPU and it is causing the motherboards safety controls to kick in.
I suggest that you take that unit apart. Completely remove all the attachments and clean that motherboard front and back.
Then make sure everything is firmly seated when you hook everything back up.
To answer your question about the Event Log you found; Double Click the log text. It will open up with more details and in most cases supply you a link to M$ for an even more detailed description and solution.
