Hi. All of a sudden I cannot receive email through outlook express. I can send, but on receive it just waits and never completes the task.

Only thing I've done new is all the critical updates on Aug 15th at 6:20 PM. I am not using SP2 so that is the only critical update I did not download. I have a 2nd computer that I also did updates on, that computer is using SP2. Outlook express is working normally on that computer. It has same ISP, Comcast, and the same email addresses. So ISP is okay, just this computer.

James.

Okay, I just shut off Norton Antivirus and when it's off I can receive email through Outlook Express. So I'm pretty screwed because you can't get info from Norton people and everyone seems to dislike Norton Internet security. The other computer has AVG and works okay. I like Norton's ad and banner blocker.

Sigh,
James.

Okay, so I permanently turned off Norton Antivirus ONLY for outlook express. So I at MUCH MORE risk. Who cares I guess. Norton still works against viruses right? Just doesn't delete them immediately through Outlook express?

I have a lot of stuff shut off already. I'm using Norton Internet Security 2005. I really only use the firewall, antivirus, (with email off), ad blocking is on, popup blocking is on, anti-spam is off, privacy control off, parental control off. If Norton sold the ad & banner and popup blocker in a package by itself I would get that and use a free antivirus program.

Thanks for listening to me gripe.

James.

If you used FireFox as your default browser instead of IE, you wouldn't have so many problems.

Conversely you may want to install IESPYAD if you wish to persist using IE.

Lessons learnt the hard way are not easily forgotten.

I suppose if I asked how to change the tire on my Firebird Trans Am, someone would say that I should buy a Mustang :) That wouldn't help me much either.

Problem was in the firewall. IE, Outlook Express, and Norton working flawlessly again.
