captain, just click once to hilite the message in your in-box and either click the Delete button in your Toolbar or right click the hilited message and click Delete. You may also want to click Tools/Options and under the Maintenance tab put a checkmark in front of Empty messages from the deleted items folder on exit, click Apply, click OK and exit Outlook express. Doing this will never open the message.

cf, Never heard of that problem before but here's a workaround. Instead of using your mouse use your up & down arrows on the keyboard to hilite the message then click the "Delete" button on your Toolbar.

Are you viewing it in the preview pane?
If you are using the preview pane in OE
clicking on it to highlite it will cause it
to open in the preview pane.

This function could be harmful as it is the
same as opening the mail. If this is the case
I suggest turning off the preview pane.

To disable the Preview pane:
1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Click View.
3. Click Layout.
4. Uncheck Show preview pane.
5. Click Apply.
6. Click OK.
