Outlook Not Opening Emails

MS Outlook has no problems opening regular messages that come into my Inbox; but when I search for an old email and find the one I'm looking for, it tells me that it can not open the message.
Does anyone know why this is? I am working on an Exchange server- if that helps at all. Thanks a lot!
