How can I transfer my email account settings and rules from a PC on the network running Win XP Pro and Outlook 2000 to a new pc on the network running Win XP Pro and Outllok 2002. I have successfully transfered my messages and folders by importing the PST file, but I have 8 email addresses and don't want to have to setup each one along with the rules again.

Thanks

hey TOM,

I can't say for sure (all I have access to at the moment is outlook 97) but it seems to me that Outlook 2000 allows you to export mail account settings in very much the same way Outlook Express does.

I'm going off of memory, but it seems like you go to Tools>Accounts>

once in this option, a little poking around and you should find a listing of your mail accounts, and an option to export them.

this should allow you to save them as a file (similar to a *.iaf from outlook express) which you can then repeat the process on the new machine and import them.

I don't have Outlook 2000 in front of me so I might be leading you astray. Take a look and see if that's the right road.

good luck!

aosclay is right on, they do export as "*.iaf" files.

Thanks, the export was easy.Just like you said and there was a similar option in the rules wizard. OK so now I have my IAF files for each account and my Rules, but when I try and import into new pc I select "Import Internet Mail Settings" and click next but I don't get an option to locate files... I get an error message - no internet accounts were found to import - I have tried to place the IAF files in a few different locations but still nothing. I found this - Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 278168 - it says that IAF file were only available in Outlook 2000 IMO (Internet Mail Only) and is not available in Outlook 2002. The work around describes importing like I tried above but says that the old email prog must be installed on the same pc. I'll keep looking. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

ooh, bummer...so close...

not ideas yet, but its good to hear you're HALF way there.

are you selecting the import option from <guessing from memory> File>Import/Export or are you trying to import the setting from Tools>Accounts?

this can make a difference. sometimes the wizards get in the way.

again, guessing from memory...

Actually what I ended up doing was using BackRex Outlook Backup Demo. It did an excellent job. It even moved over the rules, but I had to go in and adjust them because Iam on a newer version of outlook. The only thing it didn't bring over were my passwords. I would reccommend this prog to everyone wanting to transfer. Thanks again
