I see no ".MBX" or ".DBX" files and it looks like there may be a single e-mail store location such as OUTLOOK uses, where IN, OUT, Address BK, etc. is all lumped together in one big file. Does Outlook Express ever do this? Could it be related to the NETZERO ISP used on problem computer? Anyone ever seen anything like this?

If I understand you correctly, you are looking for your store location in outlook express.
If this is the case
1. open outlook express
2. click 'tools' in the menu bar
3. click 'options'
4. click the 'maintenance tab'
5. then click the store folder button,
this will show you where the store folder is located if you just click on it, or if you follow the steps after clicking it you can then change your store folder location.

Hope I answered your question correctly.

Cheers

Hi JESSE, tambits10, hello everyone,

Outlook Express does not stored the email in a single file as Outlook. Outlook Express has a file for each folder. The default ones that are created when OE is installed such as Inbox.dbx, Outbox.dbx, Deleted.dbx, ect...

When a user creates a new folder in OE to organize their mail a new file is created for it also.

In addition to those files, you will find one called folder.dbx. This file is a reference of all the folders the user created. It is necessary when backing up OE that this file is backed up or the folders will not be created even though the file exist.

The Store location can be found using the method kindly provided by tambits10.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Thanks, but there are no DBX or MBX file there, just one big 386MB file. If that's my e-mail, how do I separate it into IN, OUT, Address bk, etc.? Because of the location, this is probably it, but I've never seen this before?

Mesich, I'm sorry I can't answer that at this time, as I'm trying to help a gentleman recover 'apparently lost' e-mail and he isn't very computer savy and I am not in his city until next weekend. I saw it a few days ago and should have written it down, you know about shouda, couda, wouda. Thanks for you help. I'll post name & extension whan I get it. Maybe I can get him to find it & maybe not. May have to wait until I'm there.
Jesse

Hello everyone,

Hi Jesse,

Yeah, I'm very familiar with the shouda, couda, wouda. :-)

Possible that they may still be stored on his Web Email. That is if the option to leave a copy on the server was selected in OE.

Best Regards,
Mesich
