Comment:

Yesterday my computer froze when i clicked "reply" in outlook express. When i rebooted, my address book was empty and now I can't send a new message, reply or open my address book.

I've tried the following:

- reinstalling Explorer and Outlook Express
- intalling Explorer patch
- intalling the msoe.dll patch

Neither worked.

When I try to create a new message, it says:

"The Address Book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install.

When I try to open the Address Book, it says:

"Unable to open the address book. The address book may not be installed correctly"

The "error signature" when I try to exit OE is:

"AppName: msimn.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1123
ModName: msoe.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2800.1123
Offset: 000c30d1"

I've also tried reinstalling XP, but my laptop didn't come with an XP CD-Rom. When I run "spf /scannow" it prompts me for the CD, because it needs a .dll file, but none of the CD's i tried are the right one.

Please help someone! I've spent hours trying to fix this.

Thanks,

Ali

Try running the system file checker again, and point it to the c:\windows\i386 directory, and that contains most of the cab files from the XP cd.

Did you attempt to run system restore to a previous date prior to the problem?

To Response 1: The system file checker didn't ask for an alternate location. It only asked for the XP CD-Rom. How can I point it to the directory?

To Repsonse 2(KTTD): Yes, I tried the system restore, twice, with no luck.
