Outlook Express - Lost Email data

Microsoft Office 2010 home and student

Specs: Windows XP, Intel (R) core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz, 2.29GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM, Physical Address Extension

After not being able to access or see any personal emails within a number of dedicated folders within my Outlook Express (it kept coming up with the message low disk space), I followed some instructrions online and located the corresponding folders and changed the file name from .dbx to .old.

Now it appears all emails from all folders have disappeared and there are no items in any folders.

I really want to access my old email files.

I have tried to revert .old to .dbx but it says this file already exists.

Please advise how I can locate and reinstall my data to the corresponding folders. I wish I had not changed the file name from .dbx to .old. At least I only had to solve the memory problem!

Please help,

Many thanks

The folders do already exist because OE recreates new ones as soon as you start it. All you need to do is close OE, go to the store folder where you found the .dbx files, delete or rename the 'new' .dbx files and then rename your .old files back to .dbx. When you open OE again your old emails will reappear. Alternatively you can rename the folders you named .old - for example, change 'inbox.old' to 'savedmail.dbx' - restart OE and you will find a 'savedmail' folder with your old emails in it.

Please don't worry. I can understand your problem. Me too faced this challenge and solved it using a mail recovery software.

You can get the free download of this software at http://www.windows-data-recovery.net
