I have a copy of my .mbx files from another computer. I copied them into the correct folder in my user profile folder. When I open Outlook express, the folders show up and my old emails are there. Everything works fine as long as I don't reboot. But as soon as I reboot, all of my emails are gone, and the folders along with them, and I get the "welcome to outlook express email" that you get when you first install outlook express. Anyone have any ideas why it deletes the .mbx files that I copied into my profile? I tried doing an "import email" this time and will see how it works, but just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem. Thanks!

Have just discovered a similar problem:
Using Windows2000 Workstation it seems that it is dangerous for the administrator to change the groups that a user is a member of. AMAZINGLY, I have found that if a user becomes a member of (or is removed from) "Administrators" he/she is usually in for a REAL suprise next time they log in. The user will be welcomed by the horrific message "welcome to outlook express email" on opening OE. All the users e-mail - EVERYTHING] will be ...GONE. If you don't believe this then give it a try yourself (having backed up first!!!). If the e-mail is not lost in this process (which I have occasionally seen) then just change the case of the first letter of your user name when you next log on. (Win2000WS will accept this and it sould guarentee you e-mail is gone.) [[When I see things like this I really cant believe humans got somebody to the moon.]]

Following my earlier reply, where I suggested that a user can loose all e-mail in Outlook Express when running Windows2000 Prof.:
I have looked at this more closely and find that it is only the user (other than Administrator) that is setup during the installation of Windows2000 that has this problem. A user created by the Administrator after the PC is fully setup seems to be pretty solid. Only the user created from the the information entered duing the setup seems to suffer from getting all of its settings trashed. (I also suspect that if I delete this user and recreate it from scratch it will be okay - but I have not actually tried this yet!) It looks as though only a user fully created by the Administrator on a fully installed system counts as "real", as far as the W2000 operating system is conserned. So, I advise you to put only nominal information in during the O/S installation and delete the resulting user that will have been created when setup is complete. [I find this situation bad - particularly as Microsoft consider Win2000 to be one of their finer products - and would welcome any more information that anybody can send.]
