Hey, I've got a little problem with my ISP email account. It's set up to receive mail through Outlook Express 6, and I thought everything was working fine, but now I realized that I have not been receiving emails that contained attachments with certain files.

From another email account, I sent two emails , one with *.xls attachments and one with *.doc attachments, to my ISP account and a webmail account. The webmail account received the messages, but Outlook Express didn't receive the email with the *.xls attachments. I checked out Options and looked under the Security tab and everything looks normal (no check for blocking emails or anything).

Has anybody ever come across this problem before? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

just to add something else, Outlook Express doesn't give any warnings about potential viruses or anything. I just don't receive the email with the *.xls files at all, there is no record of it ever been received.

Ezio,

Try this. Go to Tools and then Options. Click the Security tab and you'll see a box that says, "Do not allow attachments..."

If that it checked, uncheck it and then you'll be able to receive attachments. Let me know if this works for you.

Ezio,

Sorry!! I juist read your post again. So, then you have that box unchecked and you still can't see them? Ok, this is when it gets fun. Let me try a few things and I will get back to you.

This page may help. If not, go through these other pages that I found on the same subject.

You may want to change the wording of the search and find other articles posted by M$ on this trouble.

Thanks for your help everybody,

I've got an update, I tried testing my Outlook Express email account again by sending three emails, one with no attachments, one with a *.doc attachment, and one with no attachment.

That was 1.5 hours ago, and I only received the email with the *.doc file and it took an hour to get receive it?!! Very strange. So, I guess this might not have to do with the attachments. I've got no clue what's going on here, my POP3 and SMTP servers are right and everything.

Ezio,

Wanna try something? You can always go back to Express. What I was thinking if you were to try and use Outlook. If you have Office for XP, Outlook is in there. I ran Outlook with Express and it ran fine.

Try it and see if the atachments work that way. If they do, then we know it's Express that needs to be reconfigured.

Keep me posted.

Unbelievable, it is noon on August 15, I have just now received the 5 other test messages that were sent, including the ones with the *.xls files. These emails were sent over a day ago!

I'm going to call up my ISP, this is ridiculous.

Sorry about wasting your time guys, but I do appriciate all of your help.

Hi Ezio,

It's never a waste of time. I like this forum because I am learning a lot from it. Keep us posted as to what your ISP tells you.
