In my wifes account on Windows XP we get the following error message when we try to load outlook express:

Outlook express could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer. Please log off of windows and then restart outlook express. If the problem persist, save your work and them restart your computer.

Logging out and restarting computer does not solve problem. The problem exist only in my wife's account.

Can anybody help solve the problem without opening a new account?

Is a virus or spyware the cause of this problem?

is outlook still running on your acount when your wife logs into hers? if you hit winkey+L it just switches users and will not terminate any programs running on your login. Have you upgraded too SP2?
