Hello all,
Just recently I have been getting this message from Outlook Express every time I close out of the OE program.
It reads as follows:

To free up disk space, OE can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes.

[]Don't show me this again

OK CANCEL
I have gone to TOOLS>OPTIONS>MAINTENANCE>CLEAN UP NOW
and where it says local files for OUTLOOK EXPRESS then under that it shows total size of files 0 bytes
wasted space 0 bytes (0%)
This really is making no sense to me since these numbers show 0 or 0%
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

Click on cancel and tick the dont show this message again. I dont know why it satretd to appear but it happened for the first time for myself also.

It seems that message pops up if you have quiet a few received messages in your in box with large attachements.

That was the case for me any way.

The procedure above fixed the problem.

I think a good look in the settings section of OUXprss and a search of Microsoft KNowledge base may give you some more clues.

I havent had time to do that myself yet.

Regards

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

Janos,
Thanks for the possible solution. I have emptied my INBOX, SENT ITEMS, DELETED ITEMS and still have the message appearing.
Here is a link to a possible solution my father-in-law sent me.

I just am not brave enough yet to press the compact button.
I downloaded the XP SERVICE PACK 2 here just about 3-4 weeks ago and about 2 days ago was the first I have seen this message appear when closing OE 6. I wonder if this is a glitch with XP SP2??
I do have other folders that I created and have quite a few e-mails saved in them. Maybe this is part of the problem as well?
Thanks again for your input, Ron
