Outlook Contacts Lost

Microsoft Outlook 2007
November 11, 2009 at 06:25:19
Specs: Xp SP3
I got a corrupted pst file so I loaded a backup which
was made under a previous version of Outlook (2003)
I think. I just upgraded to 2007 so I haven't lost much.
All the emails came back but not a single contact. I ran
the repair tool on the corrupt pst and it can see 554
contacts but all the email addresses are gone. Since
the backup was just a copy of the corrupt pst file
(before it became corrupt) the contacts are in there
somewhere. Any suggestions?

So when you click on an individual Contact and view the information, there is no email address?

There is no data in any of the email fields of the "repaired"
corrupt pst file. In the backup pst file there are email
addresses (i can see them with a repair tool) but when I hook
the pst file up to Outlook no contacts at all show up.

Thank you kindly for your help

This is normal when you have one pst open and then open another one. You first have to check that you want to see the contacts of the other pst file.

Go to your contacts, there should be something with contacts in backup.pst

Other way to show them is to click in you navigation menu on the left on the small button that shows a folder and says folderlist.

Then you can copy the contacts of the backup pst to the repaired one and you are done also. You need to open both pst files to copy them or drag them from on to the other.

Good luck

Thank you very much for the help but that doesn't seem to
work or I am doing it wrong. I attach the backup data file.
Outlook then shows two sets of personal folders but neither of
them has any contacts.

So when you click on "Contacts" on the Navigation Bar, and then select each Contact List, there are no entries? Or, there are 554 entries in the second data file but no email addresses? I'm a little confused.

OK, let's just concentrate on the backup file which should be
fine. I can see the 554 contacts when I run the demos of the
various pst repair tools one can find on the net. However, when
I specify the backup file as an additional pst file using Data File
Management I don't see a single contact inside Outlook. I do
see all the emails.

In the case of the corrupt pst (as opposed to the backup), the
repair utility that I bought recovers the contacts but without the
email addresses. It does the same thing on the backup file.
But when I use a different repair tool I can see valid addresses.
If you think your confused ... Its interesting to note that not
one of the six repair tools gets the same result and they all
have trouble with the Mail folders structure.
