This past September 3, I bought Toshiba Satellite with 2GB RAM, built-in Webcam and 260GB HD for $999.99 plus taxes at Staples.

This past Tuesday I was shopping with friends at Best Buy and I saw the same model on sale for $949.99.

Then we headed over to Circuit City nearby and lo and behold the same one was selling for $849.99.

I went back to Staples and talked to the Manager. I showed her the documents. Guess what she did? She adjusted the $999.99 into $799.90 sale based on the fact that - as she explained - I am one of their "best customers".

Now I feel $216.84 (tax included) rich with the refunded. Do you have any suggestion what I should do with it?

One more thing I forgot to add. The reason why I purchased this Toshiba to replace my aging Dell inspiron notebook.

LOL I'm in New York and I think you're thousands of mile away oversea :-)

BTW one of the critical reasons why I chosen Toshiba over other brands is that it comes with two bootable Windows Vista DVDs and no recovery partition.

sales reps get into a real hurry to throw them in if you're about to walk out :)

Thanks :-)

I'm not a gamer but the graphic chip is decent enough for my use. See Circuit City link below for the specs

BTW I made a mistake above the HD is actually 250GB not 260GB. I already have loaded every applications I need on it and the free space is now 217GB.

I would have done that but my better half is currently oversea visiting family. I will take your suggestion when she returns.

BTW The first thing I did after Windows Update was to remove all crapwares that came with it such McAfee Internet Security, etcetra. So far it's running great.

Use some of the money for a chill mat & extended replacement warranty for the notebook.

He almost always does - 97.3% of the time j/k :-) The accidential damage coverage I purchased at the same time I purchased the notebook has all that. Having this type of insurance gives me peace of mind in the event I spill coffee on it or drop it - they sometimes happen.

I think I will opt for the chill mat. One good thing about this Toshiba is that the exhaust vent is located on the left side of the notebook and not on the bottom.

The Toshiba is a nice grab, and at a really sweet price, too. The managers have a wide margin of freedom on sale-matching deals like that. I worked for Circuit City and I have seen some sweetheart deals! But, you only get it if you ask for it. And it never hurts to ask. Especially if the manager thinks maybe you will want a refund so you can buy from the other guy. It's just psychology, so milk it for what it's worth. Good luck!

A positive attitude won't solve all your problems, but it will annoy just enough people to be worth the effort.

If I read XPs post correctly, the manager went way beyond price matching.

You're right Othe - she went way beyond it. I was at Staples today because of Clearance BlowOut sale. The Toshiba is now selling for $849 - 50 dollars over what she adjusted for me.

BTW I bought myself a WD Element 400GB external USB HD for only $49 after $35 instant saving & $45 rebate. They only had 12 of them in stock. The store opened at 10 AM with a small mob of bargain shoppers. I rushed in and grabbed one. The entire stock was sold out in just a minute or two of opening.

EDITED 07/09/17:

HERE is a sample of Staples Clearance Blowout! ad and HERE is Staples description of the 400giggie HD (listed with before & after prices) that I bought for myself.

I hear you OtheHill. I still maintain, tho, that the CSR has very wide latitude in these matters. That, plus there are amazing sales going on all around. Keep your eyes open and be ready to pounce. This is what makes computing fun!

I would agree. The manager in this case evidently had wide latitude.
