Hi, if ur running xp, and its a legitimate version, you have no choice but the register/activate, as for OS perfomace no diffrence, only if its not registered then you will only have 30 days of OS use, before it locks up.

That's wrong, it doesn't matter if you have Xp registered or not. What the above post is talking about is Activation, which I presume you have already done, otherwise you WOULD be getting the "you have 30 days" message.
Registering it only allows Microsoft to spy on you.
