OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Pentium 4 3GHz / 512MB
Comment:

I bought parts for my custom pc and gave it to a profesional company to connect it and everything. The only thing that they didn't do is set up the bios and install the OS.
I have a Windows XP Pro edition CD that the computer recognizes, installs it and then suddenly, at the end of the installation shows a blue screen where it mentions something like:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."
Then it mentions something about cheking my hard drive and that it might be corrupted or infected.
it also presents a couple of numbers:
"STOP: 0*0000007B (0*F898D524, 0*C0000034, 0*00000000, 0*00000000)"
What I'm thinking that could be a problem is that the hard drive is messed up, but i thought that installing a brand new OS would fix that.
Should I buy a new hard drive or is there a way i could fix this one, or am I just installing the os wrong,(by the way i don't know what to do with the new motherboard CD)

What should I do, can somebody help me out, any advice, tips or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Mirza,

The shop that built it should be equipped to test the hardware.

The problems you're getting could be HD, RAM or mobo.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Is there any reason why the shop didn't set up the bios and install the OS for you?

If your Hard disk is infected wth a Boot Sector Virus you can get this STOP ERROR
Unless there are other compelling reason's to use this particular HDD, it is better to go for a new HDD for this new System

If you want to troubleshoot this STOP ERROR, you will find help in this MSKB article:

Take it to the shop. I bet they didn't do all of this for free. Maybe they should earn their money?

Find out the manufacturer of the HDD and go to the home site and look for the utillity diskette for checking that drive. This diskett will run in dos before the installation and will either repair the hdd or tell you what it is that is wrong. It can be downloaded as a floppy or as a cd..to your choice.

You may need to do a low level format to wipe that drive clean which can take several hours to complete. If the drive is ok and all then you will have to look to other possibilities as to what is causing the error.

You can chase the solution down (maybe...eventually), but I would expect it to work when received. Period. Take it back.
