I removed a start up program or file (through Norton & don’t know what it was but thought it was Norton associated) that has caused the following effect: My computer will boot and allow me (and all users) to login. It will then begin to load the personal settings. Before completing that process, it will begin the log-off process, indicating that it is saving my personal settings. I am them returned to the user log-in prompt. I never see the icons on my desk top or the start menu before the system begins to shut down. I’d like to run scan disc from boot but don’t remember how to launch it... but I’m not really sure that will solve my problem.

I have rebooted and fully loged off & read through many threads on this topic. No luck yet...
I purched my pc directly from Dell (maybe 3 yrs ago), so I am fairly certain my OS is legit, but it did not come with a recovery cd - I would have tried booting from that.
Any tips on getting scan disc to run before windows?
