A few days ago I posted about a difficult OS problem - read about it here.
Currently I'm running on a "backup OS" until I can recover all of my data. But I've been told there's a way, through the recovery console, to fix my first OS. My problem now is that the recovery console does not recognize any of my passwords. A Microsoft tech support agent told me I needed to input the first password I ever used for the OS.
Is there any way I can recover my "original" password? And if so, how can I use it to restore my previous OS? I really, really don't want to reinstall/redownload everything.

Not that I am aware of. If you need to get at the console then you are going to need that password. I have CD's that will help me in my job but what you asking, nada, zippo.

Sorry bro.

I was afraid of that. Since I've used this system for a while, and changed my pass frequently, looks like I'm going to have to wrack my brain really hard... or give up.

Wracking your brain can be a good idea. Take a long walk and it might come back to ya. Just don't give up yet.

The problem with the Recovery Console and passwords is apparently a recognised glitch. I posted some time ago about it and the only thing that worked was the registry edit in Response 4 by fjb - my post and responses are at http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/133495.html

and the source of the regedit instructions are at the site mentioned.

Good luck

Thanks so much for the links! I'm going to try some various things and see if they work. I've downloaded EBCD and edited my registry, so I'll try booting up certain ways and report back. If this doesn't work, it's the thought that counts =^+^=

"Stirrer attacks human being! Why is the heck?"

Again, as I feared, no luck. I modified the registry, but all it did was allow me into my second OS recovery console (which I'd been able to do anyway). Next I tried EBCD, and reset all passwords to blanks. Trying to access the first OS through the rec console once more ended in failure. I know what I'm doing - but M$ really effed me over this time with their 64-bit edition trial. Should've virtually emulated the sucker first...
I was planning on trying the Shift+F10 thing originally, but since doing a repair install doesn't work either, that's out.

There are just no more options for me, so I'm just going to have to grin and bear it. Thanks a ton for your suggestions, and wish me luck!
Let's hope in a year's time Longhorn has fixed all common day problems. This is almost enough for me to go Mac! ... but not quite.
