Hi,

About 6 months ago we (as in the company i work for) bought 15 Dell Optiplex GX260's, all of which were second hand (about 2 years old in total i think). In the last month or so, I have been having a lot of problems with the onboard video adapters which are on the Intel 82845G controller.

What happens is when windows loads you can see the XP logo and the loading status bar but then it goes blank, and about 20 secs later the computer resets. Also on a couple of the machines people will be working on something and then it just goes blank, the computer has to be hard reset to get working again.

I am certain this is a driver issue because of the fact that windows loads in safe mode using the XP VGA driver, but even after updating the driver it still does it. I have uninstalled the display adapter from device manager and reinstalled it etc, but again, the same thing happens. I have looked on the dell support website but this problem doesn't seem to fit any of there answers.

This has confused me a lot because it is happening on multiple machines (about 5 so far). I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems either with this or a different model or graphics card? Is this a know issue with dell PC's?

Thanks

My business network consists of Dell OptiPlex machines. We have 23 GX260's, and none have experienced a video problem.

As an aside, steer clear of GX270's -- a myriad of problems, including bad capacitors.

My company has 300+ Dells, most of em the GX260's... the problem you are having is simple to rectify.
Microsoft has a 'video driver update' in the windows update. If you load it, your system will act just as you specify.
Boot them to safe mode and revert the video drivers back to the previous driver.
Should solve yer problem.
