Optimizing Software

I have recently installed system mechanic 4.0 and everything seems to be working fine, with one exception. When I run the defrag too it locks up, particulary while mapping free drive space. It gets about 26% complete then just seems to be running but not doing anything for over an hour. And they bragged about how fast it is! Ha! Any ideas?

Perform a scandisk: My Computer > Right click your hard disk > Properties Tools > "Check Now" button > and check the box to automatically fix errors

To be honest, I have found that these "super housekeeper" utilities are a pain, and I end up spending more time getting them to run properly and fixing the problems they created than if I just used the utilities that came with XP.

Have you shut off antivirus when defragging? As the defrag utility is trying to move files around...your antivirus is working overtime trying to scan everything. Just dont forget to turn it back on when done defrag.

Hmmm, I forgot about the virus protection, that could be the problem. I also have found that these super-optimizers can be a pain. Thanks for the feedback.
