Operating system will not load

September 1, 2011 at 13:57:54
Specs: Windows XP, 96mb
I have an armada 1750 laptop onto which I tried to load windows xp. I attempted to format but received an error saying that volume c (only volume) could not format. After exiting and rebooting, message was received that says the operating system cannot be loaded.
Original OS is windows NT/98. How can I fix this? Do you need more information in order to help?

That laptop maybe too old to run XP.

Okay, so if this is the case, is there any way I can resort back to the original 98 system. I only have the xp cd. It will not boot, only load the setup files . What can I do to fix this?

Thank you.

It's not the answer you want but it's time to buy something new. There are new laptops available at very low prices. If you have a few hundred dollars, buy one. If you have to save some money first, download a linux OS & install that for now. At least it will get you on the internet.

At only 96MB, it is too underpowered for XP. As guapo suggests, you may be able to do some basic things with a light distro of Linux; DSL, Puppy, NimbleX would likely be OK---but not Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandrivia, etc. which would be as "heavy" as XP. If you've attempted an XP installation, it's quite possibly too late to salvage the Win98 installation without a complete reinstall of Win98.

LOL!!! Thanks. I think I'll do just that--as soon as I'm certain this one can't be salvaged. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.
