Hi, recently my comp decided that it hates me and to prove so it started showing this black screen that says Operating system not found. I've read through just about all the threads here but nothing seems to work. I tried doing fdisk /mbr, sys c: but nothing helped, and I saw many suggestions about checking the Bios, the problem is that I don't know how to do it. I would be EXTREMELY greatful if anyone could help.

Did you try booting from the XP CD and do a system repair from the install menu? Not the recovery console, go past that to the install menu and repair the existing O/S.

The thing is, my comp didn't come with it. I found out like last week that the recovery and all that was in a partition in my hard drive (which in my opinion isn't really smart because I didn't know what a partition was until last week.

Oh yah, when I try to get into the C drive it says something about it not being there and gives me the options of abort, retry and fail.

To get into the BIOS setup you have to press a key during the first part of the boot process, usually del. or a function key, this will dpend on your system/motherboard.
When the OS files are stored on the drive, you are usually given a system restore disk to reload windows. If you don't have one then get in touch with the people who sold you the machine.
Silly I know, but you've checked there's no floppy or cd-rom in the drives haven't you.
Another option would be to put the hard drive in a friends machine to check to make sure it's not totally dead.
