OpenMG Music Software Problem

On a Sony Vaio desktop PC, I reinstalled the OpenMG music management software.
Despite this, the OpenMG software won't acknowledge that the presence of the Sony Network walkman, NWMS-11, I believe is the model number. The error is - External Device not found.
I think the problem may be with the OpenMG software.
Strangely, the OS recognizes the Memory Stick as a drive letter.
Question - does anyone know how this problem can be resolved? Also, can the silly openMG software be bypassed? When I put mp3 files on the Walkman unit, it wouldn't acknowledge them.
