If I right-click on a file and choose "Open With" from the context menu, I receive this error message instead of the program list:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."

Is this occured only one particular file or every single files? I don't know but try scan disk and defrag. It all ways help. If that fails just put XP CD in and setup XP again. I am not talking about clean install just run setup again.
right click (open with) > choose program and you can check the box to always open with, if you dont see this option then go into control panel > folder options > file types tab, select the extention and click the change button, hope this helps

The problem occurs with ANY file that has a pre-existing association. For example, I right-click on an mp3 file, choose "Open With", and a submenu appears. The submenu contains Winamp and Windows Media Player, and "Choose Program" at the very bottom. Selecting "Choose Program" results in the error.
