I'm not sure who to ask for help, so if this is the wrong place please tell me where to go. I'm having a problem with my On-Screen Keyboard, the one that already comes with every copy of Windows XP. For the past year the overall size of the Keyboard has been decreasing. About last year is when it first happened. The OSK decreased in size by 20%, I didn't know how it happened and everything was still readable so I just went with it. But then last week its size decreased by another 50%, which made the keys of the OSK look like tiny rectangles instead of squares. It almost made them unreadable. And then yesterday it happened again, but this time it's 90% gone. The keys are now completely gone and the only thing remaining is the Titlebar. I don't know how this is happening, because there is no way to manually resize the OSK - so the decreasing size shouldn't even be possible.

As far as I know, I haven't done anything to cause this. In the past 2 weeks, I've been doing almost nothing with my computer. I haven't downloaded anything and I haven't been messing with ANY computer settings. There is one thing I noticed during this last "size decrease". Yesterday morning I was on my computer just writing a letter with my OSK (remember at this stage the keys were still those tiny rectangles), then when I was finished I turned on my screensaver and then left the house. When I came home I went to my computer, moved the mouse, which ended the screensaver, that's when I noticed that the OSK had completely shrunk. So, I don't know if somehow the screensaver made the OSK shrink or if it was something else. But I do know this last time it shrunk when nobody was home.

Wild guess!!! Have you tried booting up in safe mode? Booting up in safe mode will sometimes clear up weird problems.

When one first starts to use the on-board keyboard in windows XP a notice is given to go to the website to find a add-on application for full time users from Microsoft Assistive Technology Vendor Program

http://www.microsoft.com/enable/at/...

Did you do this and install a third party application for using the OSK ?

You might try 2 things:
1) upgrade your graphics card driver and see if that helps your problem.
2) start > Control Panel > Display Properties> Settings tab > Advanced button > Troubleshoot tab > Hardware Acceleration slide. If you lower the acceleration, that alone could help

Change Is Good

When I'm in Safemode the OSK looks & works just fine. I checked and my graphics card driver is up-to-date. And I did that add-on application for full time users from Microsoft Assistive Technology Vendor Program, years ago when I started using the osk - so that's not an issue. I did lower the acceleration, but that didn't help.

Bump.

I still need help. Does anyone know how to fix this OSK? And, I was wrong about my OSK working in safe mode, it does not work in safe mode - the same problem happens there too.
