HELP!
Start off with the specs, WinXP Pro, Local LAN through Linksys 4port router/switch connected to cable modem.
Here's the problem - for some reason, applications on my computer cannot access the Internet - Only Microsoft Products (go figure), Netscape, and AOL IM will access the Internet. There is also a problem with this computer seeing anything in My Network Places, but we won't go into that....
All other machines on the network do not have this problem - all programs can utilize the network.
I did some searching - I am not using Internet Connection Sharing, Internet Firewall, or NetBUOI protocol.
Any help would be appreciated!! Need any more specs, let me know.

well the my network places problem that you don't want to go into might just be the problem. if you can't see the network and you're supposed to be accessing internet resources through it then that might be part of the issue. what in particular can't access the internet? are you using any sort of firewall at all that might be blocking certain ports?

I do not have any sort of firewall in place. If it makes matters better, I hooked my cable modem up directly to the computer in question, but still no luck.
The lan itself nothing goes through, a Linksys switch is installed to two other computers (one winme the other win2k) they have no problem accessing the internet in any program.
My problem, for example, I use adaptec's sound stream for cd ripping. The program cannot access the CDDB to download song information, or real player cannot play streaming audio. If I use internet explorer, netscape, outlook, or aim, the connection works super. Its just others that are having the problem.
