Hey,
Just ran into a weird problem (for my son). He plays some game called hobowars...some kinda text based game or whatever. Anyway, the other day it just stopped loading up. We use mozilla and IE sometimes and the page can not be found on either browser. All other pages load normally. The site won't open on my computer but the other 3 computers on our network have no problem opening it, only his has the quirk. I'm not to concerned with his game but I am curious to know how to fix it or what the problem could be, in case it happens to me or to a more important website.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you

E-mail the developer - he is the one that should know.

I would but it seems anything that starts with www.hobowars......, won't open. IE says page can't be displayed and mozilla says problem loading page. Very strange. We have AVG, AdAware, all that stuff...ran it all and still have the problem.
I even turned our Zonealarm firewall off and tried, got nowhere.
????

Well I think your addicted to this one site got the best of you. Be careful what you do on your own - If you tweak IE/FF settings to just to make this one website work correctly the tradeoff could be that all other websites may stop working for you.

lol...maybe I'll do a complete reinstall to see if that works but that is a pain in the neck. I'm just curious to know what the problem is and then whether the reinstall will work.

Just a guess! I wonder if he was a naughty boy and got banned from the site.
Also sometimes innocent people get banned because the web site bans a group of addresses.

check the HOSTS file on the computer. Its at 'c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc'. Open with Notepad and check for an entry in there.

Second vote for a HOSTS file problem. Just delete it by running this command from the Run box:
cmd /c del %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

hey,
Thank you all for trying to help me. :)
Nope he wasn't naughty...he can log on from a different computer.
I tried what you guys suggested and nothing worked. I tried to "ping" the site and got nothing from it.
Beachcoffee, I looked in that file and there was a few files (1k each), lmhosts, protocol, services and networks. Was it one of these you were talking about?
Razor, I copied what you had in your response directly into the run command and nothing happened :(
I haven't wiped the computer yet. Hopefully a last resort. Any other suggestions?

Make sure that some sort of pop up blocker didn't accidnetly add this site to it's list.
