I just got a new PC:
AMD Athlon 1.1G,128M RAM,WinXP.System Boots OK & seems to work fine.
On the Primary IDE there’s just one HDD: BUT it's set as SLAVE!
Is there any need to change this [jumper] to MASTER?
---------------
Overall I’m just trying to setup BIOS to make sure my PC can Boot-especially in any emergency…& maybe for efficiency, speed.
------------
The BIOS is AMI. Under ADVANCED SETUP:
The options listed for 1st,2nd ,3rd Boot device include:
IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?
IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ?Should I specify one of the boot devices as IDE-1--to correspond to my HDD as Pri slave?
-----------
What is a good BootUp order? I would guess: Floppy, then CDROM,then HDD.
----------------
I HAVE selected “Try other Boot devices” -- which appears to be a fail-safe..for finding some Boot Device.

Boot order,
1st boot device-hd0 with harddrive jumper set to master,
2cd boot device-floppy
3rd cd rom
Be sure to put the harddrive on the master posisiton of the primary ide slot. This is how I would set it. I always set my first boot device to harddrive because that is where windows is and will not have to go any further looking for a boot record and your computer starts faster. If you need to boot to floppy for some reason then you can always go back and change first to floppy to boot to it.
