I have a Biostar M7SXF motherboard, and the PC is not detecting any sound device. It's got onboard sound, and it's enabled in the BIOS, but I cannot for the life of me get the control panel to detect an audio device. Any ideas? I recently formatted as well, if that helps.

after formatting and re-installing the OS one needs to re-install the audio drivers as well.

Yes you need the motherboard drivers including the chipset driver and audio driver. if all else fails go to pc maker site or motherboard manufacturer.
One more thought though sometimes SP 2 resolves these issues.
