Once computer is turned on the fan starts running and the harddrive starts spinning but apparently nothing else happens. the monitor goes into sleep mode as if the computer wasnt on at all and the computer either isnt starting at all or it just freezes immediately bc nothing ever comes to the monitor.
dont know whats going on, if anyone else does, and can tell me what to do, id r eally appreciate it.
thanks

uh...

try the obvious stuff first, like unplugging everything then plugging it back in. Then, if that doesn't work open up the box (unless you have no idea what you're doing) and make sure everything is plugged in.

Next, get a boot disk (make one on a friends computer who also has xp) and use that...then see if you can find the problem in your software (run a virus scan). If you're still screwed, you could always go with the old standby: reinstall windows...

Hope this helps.

are you even able to make it to the boot screen? Nothing appears on the screen i take it... I don't want to sound like a smart ass... but you did check the monitor cable and all the little stuff right? It may be a cable came loose on the inside of the box too... this is sometimes the case, a loose cable to the hard drive might cause the computer to not start correctly, or at all.

I'll just add one more thing. As Rory said you should first check the VGA cable and see if your video card is loose. PCI video card would beep, but they're thing of the past now I guess. If it's all OK, next thing I'd do is clear the bios. This is easy, all you have to do is (1)open the box(2)find the jumper that clears cmos(you'll find this jumper on the motherboard, it's usualy written i.e CLEAR CMOS J11)(3)jumper should have 3 legs and two are shorted out(4)if it's on 1&2 place it on 2&3 and wait for few minutes(5)put the jumper back to 1&2 and try rebooting
Goodluck
