I have an old Laptop and I had to use our restore disc. Now it is so old I am trying to get my wireless back on and it is not ready the wireless card we put in. I tried taking the hardline from my motorola modem and hooking it up there to run the updates. Still nothing.....Activity is sent 2817 and nothing on received. How do I fix this?

go to control panel > internet options > and check the security section....making sure all levels are set for default settings. Then go to connections tab and make sure the LAN settings are set to auto find the connection.
