I have six versions of Java listed. The newest asked to be installed recently, jre1.6.0_07 Can I zap the older folders?

That depends on the java's applications you are running as many require legacy specific versions ,i.e. they are not upward compatible. So evaluate your needs before enabling new updates.

Thanks IVO, but I'm afraid I don't know enough about computers to link a java version to an application.
So I'm going to suck it and see, by zapping all but the most recent version.

Do zap them using Add or Remove Programs leaving only the highest version number.
