Hi, i have this old game, that runs best on win'98, and it doesn't work on Xp 'at all'.
I contacted the manufacturers after not finding an Xp patch on their site and they basically told me to shove the game up my ass.
So the question is, do i have any alternatives?I mean can one write an Xp patch on ones own?
Please, I don't want to stick that big box up my ass.

Your best bet is to go to a forum for the game and see if anyone else is using it on xp successfully.
They know the game very well and may give you some great advice.
I did fix a game that would not work on xp, but it took me almost 6 months to figure it out.
I noted that xp overwrote files with the same name even though they are in seperate folders.
I compared files and then fixed the problem so check with your forum gamers.....

if all else fails i suppose you could go to google and type in the name of the game. If not...
i usually never suggest this but look for a win98 emulator... i know its a long shot but alot of things changed when NTFS is king verus FAT system.... theres other methods
if you still have Win98 cd find a partition splitter and put win98 on a diffrent partition, and create a dual booting system.if that doesnt work email me or post here the errors and the game title and i could make/find a fix and send it out too you
Cheers

What game is it? If it’s not a major release or a game that's played buy recluses e.g. Civ or Transport Tycoon, then you are not going to get a patch. Put it this way, would you make one if you aren’t going to make any money out of it?

I made a patch for my game because I liked it that much.
I did not care about the money.
People dont pay money to get help here and we still help them dont we?
Case Closed lol

Nah, it's Slave Zero. Never played it before, but it was really cheap so i bought it and now i can't play it. But maybe i'll try and work out the dual boot system instead, i have a spare HD wich is just sort of sitting there doing nothing at the moment but writing a patch just seems like fun in a frustrating sort of way.
I'll post any outcomes here, check back in a year hahaha

Victory!!
Thank god for nerds an google, just when i had given up hope of finding a patch, i decided to try one last time and succeeded.
It's runs a bit dodgy with random shutdowns but it'll do.
Here's the link for future reference:
