I have windows XP installed on my pc. I have 2 physical hard drives which are both 100gb each. So, can I physically disconnect the c:\ drive with XP on and install windows 95 on the empty d:\ drive and then connect the XP drive again? Will this work and could I modify Boot.ini to get windows 95 and XP on a menu selection screen when i startup? Thanks.

no, just install windows 95 directly into anther hard drive. WARNING windows 95's partition might not support no more than 20gig hard drive, i think..why you want to install windows 95 for?? if i were you, i would install 2000

No, the OS will get confused and not know which of your disks is the primary and active, so nothing will work, OR it will see only the present disk you have.
One drive must be master, the other slave.

I want to install 95 so I can play games again basically! I thought win 2000 compatibility with games was as bad as XP? Also, if I install 95 with XP already there. Won't it always boot up 95 or overwrite important XP stuff?

I installed 98SE on my C: and XP on D:.
You install the older WIN first and XP second. XP will auto detect the older OS and give you the choice on bootup.
I have heard of workarounds to do what you want, but the above is a snap. And I also would use 98SE, not 95. More stable.

I know it would be dead easy to install 98 first, but I mean its such a hassle! I would have to use a startup disk and wipe my hard drive. Oh - another thing is that I only have a recovery CD, ive loaded it up to be nosey and u have 2 options - 1) Exit or 2) Restore all software that came with the pc. Now, does this mean if I install 98SE then put this 'recovery cd' in, would it wipe out the Hard drive and restore the original software on the pc? Confusing huh!? Thanks -

i have the same problem but im trying to do it on one drive , and yes it will restore your pc exaxtly the way it was when you bought it, damb image disks. i have even tryed partition magic with boot magic and i have still not found out how to do it. Its a tough one, help please

If your BIOS has the option to boot from multiple disks, install one HD at a time and install OS one at a time with disk configured as master. Then install both drives one as master and one as slave. Then choose which drive to boot up from the BIOS.
The XP drive will detect the WIN95 drive but the WIN95 drive will not detect the XP drive when active. You can copy from XP to 95 but not vice versa.
