Driving me buggy. Except for noticing an occaisional momentary disappearnce of all desktop icons, that and sometimes usually after that, when I click the task bar's start button produces nothing (no start menu).
Also sometimes when the start menu does display, either none of the items (My Docs, Search, etc.) will open (error dong heard) and if My Docs does open, it shows no history when there should be recent docs listed. Very screwy.
I'm hoping this might have been related to my oreferred use of Classic view and haveing been trying to keep the task bar locked.
Quick launch bar was fairly regularly disappearing at seemingly random reboots.
Running fresh install (that didn't seem to help at all) and of course all appropriate patches, hotfixes, bandaids, and religiously use updated and excellent subs of AS & AV (all clean).

Since I configure task bar properties quick launch (ticked) and quick launch icons appear (hense their inexplicably disappearances as explained), why would I want to untick the show quick launch?
WHen I find my q-launch icons have gone missing, of course I open the task bar simply to re-tick the "show q-launch" and I'm seeing that my earlier ticked box (for that) has been unexplainably cleared.
I'm noticing my desktop icon's blinking off and back on once at times, after using the "search" feature and even after closing applications. I hear this might be known as a shell restart which sometimes closes all open applications and sometimes just a given file.
The only thing that I hear causes shell restarts, are customized shells and as mentioned I run the Classic start menu.
When my shell restarts unexpectably close things, I'm seeing event log listings of
"source: system error, event ID 7036" and/or "source: Winlogon, event ID 1006.Of course MS seems to conveniently have no ready fix for those events, but does suggest that it's caused by a customized shell.
Again, my missing q-launch events are noticed either upon the sesktop icons flashing off/back on (once) or ccaisionally after I re-boot, and I'm not unticking the "show q-launch" tick box.
My system also is experiencing at shutdowns, I hear the windows error dong and the event log lists the event as ID 1517 (source: Userenv). MS info on that is "Windows saved user registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off", and the tracking down of that is very complicated and involves regisrty changes I'm uncomfortable trying to do.
So there you have it again, and any Windows guru's out there that are experienced enough to help, their aid would be greatly appreciated.
