I am running a few Windows XP Pro stations that connect to a Windows 2000 server. They are all setup to have roaming profiles that are located on the server. This works fine and I have not had any problems with it, how ever every time I log off it starts to sync the "My Documents" folder.

I want to prevent this from happening. I go to the network drive where the profiles are located and right click on the users "My Document" folder to get the menu and I want to uncheck the "Make available offline" but it is checked and greyed out.

How do I remove the syncing of offline folders? (This happens to all profiles)

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Mario-

Mario,

I had the same problem. These offline files can take up a lot of space on the workstation's hard drive. The offline files option, however, is good for laptops that are not always connected to a network.

You may have to be logged in as a local administrator on each workstation to change these settings.

To disable, follow the steps below:
* Open My Computer
* Click Tools/Folder Options
* Click on the Offline Files tab
* Uncheck the "Enable Offline Files" box

You may want to click on the "Delete Files" button before you disable offline files. This will delete the cached files on the local hard drive (it won't delete the files on the file server).

Hope this helps!

Phil

Actually XP automatically makes any folder redirected to a network share available offline. For example, if you redirect the My Documents folder to a network share it will synchronize at logoff. The Make Available Offline option is checked and greyed out in the context menu for My Documents. To work around this run gpedit.msc and go to User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Network/Offline Folders and enable "Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline". Hope this helps.
