Hi,
I'm usin MS Office XP/under winXP Pro/ and the Task Pane /with new document view/
but recenty the list of the recent opened files has disappeared :(

I checked the options/General/ menu and now the "recently used file list" is greyed :(

What could cause this and how to fix it?

10x to all ;)

Here's your fix:

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. It occurs if your computer is running the Tweak UI program, and the Add new documents to Documents on Start Menu check box on the IE tab of Tweak UI is cleared (not selected). The group policy setting that governs the display of MRUs indicates that MRUs are not to be displayed.

RESOLUTION

Select the Add new documents to Documents on Start Menu check box on the IE tab of Tweak UI. To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: To perform the following steps, you must be logged on as a member of the local Administrators group.
In Control Panel, double-click Tweak UI.
Click the IE tab.
Click to select the Add new documents to Documents on Start Menu check box, and then click OK.

Sorry but I don't have such a option in my Tweak UI :(

in the IE TAb there are only 2 sub menus :
1. Search
2. View Source

tell me what to change in the registry

In Tweak UI
- Explorer
- Check "Maintain Document History"

By default this is unchecked and Word2002/XP looks at this flag, where Word97/2000 does not. Yet another undocumented "Upgrade" from Microsoft.
Hope this helps
