I had a copy of office installed on my computer and removed it and reinstalled the same version of office but from a different cd - new cd number. Now office crashes all the time - especially word. Any thoughts?

It seems that there is some information you are not providing: Why did you have to remove your first version of Office in the first place? Why did you use a different CD? Did you check for virus specifically on the new version of Office ? Get back to me please.

I removed office because I was having trouble updating it online and thought that a new install might help. Didn't realize though that the cd i has used to install was no longer with me - at my home (I'm at college) and used a friends cd of office xp. I have the latest norton and ran virus checks - no prob. I have a feeling that there must be some data that isn't removed when you do an unistall and that is causing the problem but not sure.
