OEM XP install problems

Comment:
I'm attempting to install an OEM version of XP Pro on a new computer Z(Tyan 2462UNG MB) and am hitting problems on installation (shown below).
I found a similar thread to this from several months back and gather that for some reason the MFC42.DLL file on my system doesn't match what the VCTRL.MAN file expects. The previous thread said "replace with good file". Where can I find a "good" file?
Thanks, Cliff

I emailed you a copy of the dll. Are you formatting the drive before the install? Is this a legal copy of xp? Not the software police, but I'm not quite sure why you are installing an "oem" version on a "new" computer?

Any file copy error, especially on a clean install, leads to intermitent cd-rom copy errors. Partition and format the drive first. Copying the i386 (use a Win98/ME boot disk) to the hard drive and start the install from the winnt.exe file inside. If you use xcopy and smartdrive this will happen faster. This takes the CD-Rom drive out of the picture.
