Hello, I am trying to install the OEM version of WinXP Home Edition on a brand new machine with a WD 60gig HD partitioned 40gig/20gig, AthelonXP 1.8ghz CPU, 512meg RAM, Sony 16x DVD, 16x10x40 CD-RW, GeForce 3 video and SB Audigy sound card on an ABIT KG7 Motherboard. When it boots and starts the setup from the CD or the DVD, it freezes up on the Installing Kernel Debugging DLL files. What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do to get this thing to work? thanks!

I'd start on Abits website, make sure you have a bios that supports the Athlon XP, looks like bios dated oct 2001 and later.

Also check any drivers that have been released recently.

I notice this KG7 board has a highpoint ultra 100 controller, but I can only see 2 IDE connections in the picture on the web, is that right ? Seems a bit odd.

You might also want to check for clashes between the geforce 3 and the via chipset, although this board has an AMD north bridge and only a via southbridge.

This article on Geforce cards may be of help.

Try slowing the card down to x2 in the bios and disable fast writes until after the install.

it might be your nvidia card. i had major troubles installing xp oem on my system where it would freeze at the "starting windows" in the install. i replaced the geforce2 with my old voodoo3 3000 and it went flawlessly. after that i just popped the gf2 back in and it all works great.

amd athlon 1.13
soyo k7 dragon w/ 256mb ddr
gf2 mx400
wd 80g udma100/maxtor 40g udma66
