I've just became aware of a change in my network setup (when troubleshooting a mysterious speed decrease in my cable connection) - I've not installed anything other than Visual Studio .NET 2003 (and it's attendant updates) - but now, suddenly in my Network Connections, where previously, I had 3 connections: 1394 Connection, Local Area Connection & Wireless Network Connection. Now, I have four - the new one: Internet Connection - the one for ICS (which is NOT turned on, has never been turned on).

Adding to this mystery, under my Local Area Connection (Which, BTW, isn't being used) as well as my Wireless Network Connection, I have a new protocol, "Odyssey Network Services" which when selected, the "Uninstall" and "Properties" buttons go grey (I always find this suspicious)... previously, I had several items listed here, but only "Client for MS Nets", "File & Printer Sharing", "TCP/IP" and "QoS Packet Scheduler were checked, now, I also have "TCP/IP v6" added (and checked) as well as this "Odyssey Network Services" (also checked). I can uncheck it, but it seems to do nothing. I've removed IPv6 - no effect either.

I did some research on this Odyssey thing - and discovered it was necessary for Win98/ME to use with wireless... I've not updated or installed anything new regarding my wireless (Linksys WPC54GS - this Odyssey thing was NOT part of the software for my wireless card) - so what's the deal with this Odyssey protocol, and is it what's causing the slow-down I'm suddenly experiencing with my 5Mbps Cable modem?

BTW, I booted into safe mode, to remove the adapter - the Odyssey adaptor (it showed up as an Intel network adaptor - properties revealed it was distributed by "Funk Systems"?) wouldn't allow me to remove it - I discovered that this was because the driver (odysseyIM3.sys) was marked read-only - after changing that attribute, I was able to disable, but not uninstall this device. This has had no effect on the 2.4Mbps speed I'm now getting (previously, I'd tested at 4.6-4.8Mbps at numerous broadband speed testing sites)... AdAware comes up NIL, as does NAV and a couple of web-based virus/trojan scanners. I've done some port monitoring, and don't see anything untoward - I'm firewalled via the SP2 firewall, and am behind a Linksys wireless router (WRT54GS) as well (also firewalled). Ideas?

I too have this on my system. It didn't turn up until I installed my Linksys WPC54G notebook adapter. In my case, I found when I disabled the Odyssey services I couldn't connect to the internet. However, the services do not appear to slow down my connection at all.
