Comment:

I have a Dell here that I am reinstalling XP on. I have the original re-installation disks, and have already formatted the hdd, but when I installed XP, and restarted the computer, it says "Primary Hard Disk Not Found".

So I press F1, and it continues with system boot.

Why would it say cannot find disk, then boot when I hit F1???

Thanks

Update:

I just turned on the computer for the first time this week, and the OS will not go past the splash screen.

Looks like a BIOS settings issue.

Check you BIOS settings. Your first post suggests that the HDD is not your 1st boot device after the CDROM.
