On a client's machine, the following problem is occuring. They have a Linksys Wireless USB adapter. The network settings are all correct. They are all set to the default to use DHCP. Other machines on the network are getting DHCP IP addresses fine. This machine has an IP address like 169.xxx.xxx.xxx. Some odd number. If I do a ipconfig /release or /renew, it says there is no network adapter that can handle it. The adapter appears in the hardware devices, and it says it is working. Wireless Zero Config shows me their wireless network as being available to connect to. But it will not connect correctly. Any ideas?

If a DHCP server is not reached after approximately 60 seconds or leased configuration fails, the computer uses the setting on the Alternate Configuration tab to determine whether to use APIPA for automatic TCP/IP configuration or to configure TCP/IP with the alternate configuration. When APIPA is used, Windows uses an address in the APIPA IP address range (169.254.0.1 through 169.254.255.254) and the subnet mask is set to 255.255.0.0.
so as you now know your pc can not locate the dhcp server.

have you checked to see if your wireless netcard is working properly?
try a swap out with one that works.
check the lease,& dhcp is enabled.
reinstall tcp/ip check settings are set to auto find ip
or else use a static ip address within the range of your dhcp server.
