Everything was going fine with my machine up untill recently.
Thats when I started getting a runtime error after initially booting up my machine. Specifically, the error states:
Run-time error '53':
File not foundI uninstalled all of the programs I had recently installed, and no luck.
Then, after booting up one day I opened task manager and watched my processes as I waited for the error. To my suprise, the error occurs when wuauclt.exe (Windows Automatic Updates)tries to run. I checked a few more times to confirm that this is always the case, and it is.
So next I went into my system settings under Automatic Updates to change my stettings, and low and behold, the controls on the Automatic Update tab are all unnaceptable. I can't click on anything.
Has anyone ever seen this before? Does anyone know of a way I can restore my Automatic Updates without having to try to find my Windows CDs?

sounds abit more serious to me than just a dig up of your windows cd. My Point of view to this is there could be a more serious problem (virus, spyware) disabling or completely stopping your automatic updates from windows. I'd do a system scan for viruses/ spyware to be on the safe side. But maybe I'm just paranoid and this is another annoying windows problem someone knows more about....

I recently went to windows update after I rebuilt my computer. while I was trying to update my system I was virused.A popup message claiming to be from microsoft said my system had been compromised and I needed to get an update patch. I went to the site specified and found they wanted 20 dollars (credit card only) for the fix. Microsoft does not charge for legitimate updates so I did not pay. after that I kept Getting Various popups with similar warnings. I did virus scan and found 217 extra .exe's in my system 32 files. deleted extra .exe's and warnings quit. P.S., I called microsoft and they had no info or help at this time.cornerjc
